Mike is AMAZING!

Mike has been saying for a couple months at least that he would like to try out a sewing project. He is always very interested whenever i sew stuff. He likes to see how each step comes together and is always excited about the finished product with me. He has also seen photos of my dad's sewing projects and thinks its pretty cool what he can do. Check out my mom's blog, there's a link somewhere on this page. He first started saying that he wanted to make a shirt but I was a little skeptical that he would be happy with it. Then he said he wanted to make a bag, not a purse but a man bag. I felt this was a more appropriate project so I encouraged it all I could. When we were in New York (see a few posts below) we got to stop into Mood fabric, famous from the hit show project runway. I've wanted to go there since I first saw it on the show and it is as impressive as it seems. While we were there Mike found a great tweed fabric that he wanted for his bag so bought some up. We then had a few trips to JoAnn's to buy all the lining, thread, and buttons. And then the project began. Mike drew out what he wanted, made drawings with sizes of the pieces he needed cut them out, ironed on the interfacing, sewed those amazing smiley pockets, put the bag together, sewed on all the bias tape...then we searched for the perfect strap for the bag which Mike found at a music store, it's actually a guitar strap that he sewed on. He did the WHOLE thing completely by himself. I guided him with the order to do things in and told him how I would do it, but he did every single stitch by himself. And it looks so good! I feel bad for not thinking he could do a shirt. He did 4 smilly pockets and they all turned out great, I'm sure now a shirt wouldn't be any problem for him. Can you tell I'm so proud?

Holy cow! What are you still going to school for?! You've got design and sewing talent, Mike. You and Em could make some serious bag money! And Emily, I'm sooo jealous you went to Mood!
